Nora Project Nora Salon Past Events

Our next (very special) gathering of The Nora Salon is October 2nd!

The next gathering of our monthly reading series, The Nora Salon, is Monday, October 2nd.
We hope you’ll join us for a glass of wine, friendly conversation, and
informal readings of four short plays written as part of The Nora Project!

For the October gathering of The Nora Salon, we’re mixing it up a bit and bringing together two great Nora’s programs that, we think, go great together. We’ll be featuring four short plays written as part of The Nora Project: Women Write, Nora’s educational program based in Montgomery, Alabama. Last fall, The Nora Project brought together teenage girls and elder women to share their life stories and write short plays inspired by what they heard.  We’re excited to share the following pieces by these first-time playwrights:
The Glass Coffin by Susie Paul (elder),
A 21st Century Love Story by Charity Glover (teen),
How Gran Just About Ruined My Life Trying To Get Me Into College by Susan Samuel (elder), and
Turmoil by Kayla Suttles (teen).
We’ll be joined by our two featured elder women playwrights, Susie Paul and Susan Samuel, as well as Nora’s Artistic Director and the facilitator of The Nora Project, Caroline Reddick Lawson.

The Nora Salon: A Perfect Fit is September 11th!

The next gathering of our monthly reading series, The Nora Salon, is Monday, September 11th.
We hope you’ll join us for a glass of wine, friendly conversation,
and an informal reading of Lia Romeo’s play: A Perfect Fit.

A Perfect Fit (recipient of an Honorable Mention on The Kilroys’ 2016 List) is the story of Nicole, a college sophomore involved in her first lesbian relationship. Nicole’s exploration of her sexuality has caused her mother Janet to begin questioning her own marriage and her own assumptions. Then there’s Janet’s friend Melinda, who’s newly divorced and wants nothing more than the stable family life that Janet has… or seems to. A Perfect Fit asks hard questions about what it takes to be happy as a woman in the 21st century.

The next gathering of our monthly reading series, The Nora Salon, is Friday, July 7th.
We hope you’ll join us for a glass of wine, friendly conversation,
and an informal reading of Olivia Z. Cote’s play: Final Flight.

When an asteroid long ago predicted to cause a global mass-extinction suddenly appears in the sky, seventeen year-old Gabbi Raleigh is forced to confront the troubling realization of her own mortality. Gabbi, along with her dying mother and estranged aunt, wildly attempts to make sense of both global and familial chaos. Meanwhile, a therapist haunted by her troubling past receives a visit from a personal hero in a turn of events that just may set both their souls at rest. All have to wonder: Is fulfillment attainable? And if so, can one find it in just forty-eight hours?
