What Nora’s Playhouse Did This Summer: Amy S. Green

In the nine week interval between our July and September gatherings of The Nora Salon, the Nora’s team has been busy! Here’s what some of our members were up to over the summer break:

In August, Nora’s Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Amy S. Green performed five roles in Sailing with Goddesses, a comic adaptation of The Odyssey, by Georgia McGill and Greg DeNunzi, at the Hydrama Theatre and Arts Centre on the island of Hydra in Greece. She played Hermes, a member of Odysseus’ crew, the Queen of Phracia, the palace swineherd, and Odysseus’ long-waiting wife, Penelope. The production was directed by Georgia McGill and featured Heather Huggins, C. Julian Jimenez, James Savage, and Liisa Yonker; costumes and props by Karen Anselm. She was thrilled to perform in a small Greek amphitheater; see the oldest extant Greek tragedy, Aeschylus’ The Persians, at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus; and visit the Theatre of Dionysus, carved into the rock beneath the Akropolis and home to the 5th-century BC festivals where the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes had their premieres. Still, Amy reports, the feta-and-tomato salads and dips into the turquoise Aegean Sea may have been the best part of the experience.

The Nora Salon: A Perfect Fit is September 11th!

The next gathering of our monthly reading series, The Nora Salon, is Monday, September 11th.
We hope you’ll join us for a glass of wine, friendly conversation,
and an informal reading of Lia Romeo’s play: A Perfect Fit.

A Perfect Fit (recipient of an Honorable Mention on The Kilroys’ 2016 List) is the story of Nicole, a college sophomore involved in her first lesbian relationship. Nicole’s exploration of her sexuality has caused her mother Janet to begin questioning her own marriage and her own assumptions. Then there’s Janet’s friend Melinda, who’s newly divorced and wants nothing more than the stable family life that Janet has… or seems to. A Perfect Fit asks hard questions about what it takes to be happy as a woman in the 21st century.
