The next gathering of our Alabama reading series, Nora’s Salon South, is Monday, June 24th. And it is a Double Feature! We hope our Alabama folks will join us for a glass of wine, friendly conversation, and informal readings of two short plays developed through this year’s The Nora Project: Susan Samuel’s Redtop Road Requiem and Lil Martin’s In the Midst of the Storm.
Set in the early 1960’s in a small Florida town, Susan Samuel’s Redtop Road Requiem follows two children struggling to come to terms with their larger-than-life father’s alcoholism. When he may have been involved in a hit and run accident in which someone may or may not have been killed, the family circles the wagons to protect him.
Lil Martin’s In the Midst of the Storm is about an African American teen girl who is trying to deal with her emotions after witnessing a tragic event. Will she have the courage to tell the truth or will she try to reclaim the innocence she lost?
Both pieces were developed through storytelling and playwriting exercises as a part of this year’s The Nora Project.
