jumble of cut out letters and a heart

Once upon a time there was a girl who had no words. She met a boy who had no friends. They make their own language of love, friendship and betrayal as they venture through life with and without each other. This play, with its play within a play, and its fairy tale form, tells the story of a silenced girl who finds love, loss, and a voice in the theatre.

Medieval Woman

Paris 1418. Writer Christine de Pizan raises her voice against the forces of power: the Royal Duke who provokes civil war and is in love with her; and the Sorbonne Chancellor who seeks to enlist her to promote a misogynistic book as France’s literary masterpiece. Defying everyone, she publishes her City of Ladies where women play all the key roles in society.  Forced to flee for her life, years later she is vindicated by an unprecedented event.

Christine de Pizan is the first French female author to ever get paid for her work.
